FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) were founded to serve the African American community during segregation when most institutions of higher learning (especially in the South) prohibited blacks from enrolling. Cheyney University (Pennsylvania) established in 1837 was the first HBCU and Shaw University (North Carolina) was the first HBCU founded in the South in 1865. Today there are over 100 HBCUs throughout the US producing the highest percentages of black doctors, lawyers, dentists, engineers, PhD grads, pharmacists, and military officers.
Absolutely! Each year we host 100s of guests from HBCUs, PWIs (Predominantly White Institutions), community colleges, trade schools, enlisted military, as well as business owners and professionals who chose not to continue their education after high school. This weekend is more about networking, enjoying life and raising money to give back to our beloved HBCUs.
Attendees can expect a variety events which will create a memorable experience among black professional college alumni reminiscent of an HBCU Homecoming weekend.
Attendees should pack their College/Greek paraphernalia for the Meet & Greet, White Clothing for the Yacht Party, Swimwear for the Pool Party, evening wear for the Friday night and Saturday night events and comfortable clothing for the brunch.
